The Flint Metro Conference Middle School League held the 9th Annual Middle School Singles Championship Tournament on Sunday, May 19th, 2019 at Richfield Bowl. The tournament attracted record entries as they had 55 girls and 89 boys enter for 144 total entries, an increase of 42 entries from last year.

The girls saw last year’s runner up make good on her finish this year as Samantha Bean from Flushing won the tournament with a 230 to 224 victory in the finals against MacKenzey Forster from Atherton. Samantha Bean was the #2 seed after qualifying and had games of 237 and 240 to move into the final 4. In the final 4 match she defeated Rachel Black from New Lothrop 247 to 208 to get to the championship match. Samantha had 683 for qualifying to finish 2 pins behind the high qualifer Sarah Temple from Swartz Creek who had 685. MacKenzey Forster was the #9 qualifier with a 629 series and then had games of 220 and 208 to get to the final 4 where she knocked of last year’s Champion grace Lemelin 203 to 180 to reach the Championship match.

Tournament Champion – Samantha Bean

On the boys side Kaden Caraway from Davison had a 643 actual which turned into 751 with handicap to qualify #1 overall by 42 pins over Ashton Andres from New Lothrop who had 709 in qualifying. Bailey Beeman from Lapeer had a 254 actual game that turned into 289 with handicap which was the high game of the tournament for the boys. John Teuber from Holy Rosary started the day with a 122 game and then caught fire as he finished with 211 and 212 actual in qualifying and then qualified #12 overall. John Teuber then had 243 and 238 to move into the final 8 and Ashton Andres 203 and 240 to move to the final 8. Both John and Ashton won their next matches, John won 152 to 148 and Ashton 211 to 204 to move into the final 4. In the final 4 John defeated #1 seed Kaden Caraway by a score of 264 to 210 and Ashton defeated Andrew Parker 248 to 168 to set up the final match. The final match came down to the 9th and 10th frame and Ashton stepped up with a big spare in the 9th frame as he pulled out the victory 221 to 212 over John. Both boys are in 7th grade and said they would like to repeat their performance next year in this tournament.
